If you add up the lengths of all rivers, they reach an amazing total of around 100,000 kilometres. All in all, one sixth of the total area of Ontario is covered in water.
The harbour city of Toronto on Lake Ontario is the capital of the region and also the largest city in Canada. Its giant skyscrapers reach to the sky. The city is home to the tallest freestanding building in the world, the enormous CN tower, 553 metres in height. Ottawa, the Canadian capital, is also in the east of the province.
Between these vibrant metropoli, there are quiet towns, picturesque landscapes and breathtaking cascades such as the world-famous Niagara Falls, which thunder 58 metres down from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario with a spectacular cacophony. The fascinating variety and combination of untouched nature, enormous landscapes of lakes and endless skylines make the region a unique, moving world.
